On May 17, we have just one opportunity to take a state agency away from Kate Brown

** Oregon needs balanced policies and systems we can count on.

Dear Friends:

This May 17, we have just one opportunity to take a state agency away from Kate Brown and send a message to Salem politicians that we are fed up. I’m running for Oregon Labor Commissioner, one of just five statewide elected offices and the only one that could be decided next month. Can you help? ([link removed])

Brown and her allies have ruined our state agencies. Remember the debacle at the Oregon Employment Department? When the governor’s executive order shut down our small businesses, leading to thousands of layoffs, the Employment Department failed Oregonians miserably by forcing them to wait weeks – even months – to receive benefits they were entitled to. Well, the Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI – the agency I will be in charge of as Commissioner) offices around Oregon have been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, leading to a major backlog of work to be done.

The BOLI Commissioner is an independently elected position. The winner of this election will oversee a 30-million-dollar budget, 130 employees in four locations, writing the rules for small and large businesses, as well as ensuring Oregon workers have opportunities for high-wage, skilled jobs through apprenticeships. This is a big deal and requires the right person for the job. Yes, it is a job - not just a political office.

I am running for this position because I have 18 years of experience running a small business, employing more than 100 Oregonians at a time before pandemic-related shutdowns. We are continuing to recover and now have 63 amazing co-workers.

I served for over nine years on the Bend La- Pine schools board, where I focused on getting Career and Technical Education in place to prepare our students - resulting in raising graduation rates by 10%. These programs have allowed our students to graduate ready for the next step in their lives. It is time to have someone who is equipped and ready to implement and connect them with that next step: a robust apprenticeship and on the job training programs. I am ready to do just that.

I have also served in the Oregon State House of Representatives, where I established a proven track record of working hard at a state policy level to advance fair and balanced policies and fought against economy crushing policies. I can and will ensure the rules serve Oregon and its employees and employers well.

Now is not the time to give up on Oregon but rather to dig in and help get us on a sustainable path. With 36 days left to voting day I need your support to bring my message to more voters. I hate to ask again, I appreciate your past support, but I really need your help. Can you donate to my campaign today? ([link removed])

I don't want to waste this opportunity we have before us. I know you have many candidates asking you for help. But mine is the only statewide race that can be won on May 17 if I can get more than 50% of the vote.,

So please give at the top of your comfort level ([link removed]) and know I will work hard, bring strong values and pragmatic leadership to stabilize Oregon's BOLI offices, bring stability to our small business and grow our skilled workforce. Next month, we have one opportunity to take a state agency away from Kate Brown and her Salem allies. Help me start taking back Oregon right away with a Labor Commissioner win in May.
