Understanding Community Mitigation Plans for the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion

Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority has released strategies to support the communities that will be impacted by the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion. These plans were developed with input from those communities and identify different mitigation methods intended to meet different needs. While much of the plans’ contents are easy for any coastal stakeholder to understand, there are some complicated legal terms and concepts which may be unfamiliar.

To help address any confusion, and answer community questions about the diversion planning and permitting process more generally, Amy Reed and Jarryd Page from the Environmental Law Institute will be hosting a workshop at the Port Sulphur YMCA where they will explain some of the mitigation plans, share information about mitigation efforts in other states, and answer questions. Please note that mitigation plans for fisheries will be developed in the near future, and will not be covered in these presentations.
