Last week Amazon warehouse workers on Staten Island made history!

The rising wave of unionization across New York City gives me hope. I was thrilled to meet this week with Amazon Labor Union president Christian Smalls to talk about their historic organizing win. It's clear that when workers organize, everyone benefits. That’s why I’m using all of the tools of the comptroller’s office to support workers’ rights — from joining fellow investors to urge the Starbucks CEO to respect employees’ right to a free and fair union election, to investigating companies that fail to follow prevailing wage law, to rallying with Amazon workers on Staten Island.

Some of my proudest moments from my time on the City Council were working alongside workers organizing for good jobs, fair pay, and workplace protections. Remember when Los Deliveristas organized to win bathroom access, minimum delivery payments and the tips they earned? The laws we passed together are starting to go into effect and we’re not stopping there.

When workers have a voice and power in their workplace, we all benefit. I was proud when my staff organized the first campaign staff union on a New York City campaign and I know that their hard work and leadership made our campaign better and put us over the top on election day. Now that we’re in office, it’s time to use all of the tools available to us to support workers across New York City. Instantly add your name here if you agree.

In Solidarity,
