   John, it’s no
secret that many Americans are feeling the rising prices of gas.
But while working families are struggling to fill their cars and heat
their homes, the fossil fuel industry continues to rake in record profits,
   or windfalls.^1
Because while the price of oil did shoot up after Russia invaded Ukraine,
the truth is that the cost of crude oil has gone down.^2 So then why has
the cost of retail gas not gone down?
   The answer is simple,
   John: corporate greed. Something
   needs to be done.
Last month, twelve Senators and U.S. Representative Ro Khanna introduced a
new bill to hold the oil and gas industry accountable for inflating energy
prices. The Windfall Tax would provide real, monetary relief to working
families in the form of a check sent to Americans who need help with high
   gas prices.
You and I already know that Big Oil is going to fight against this bill —
so we need to come together as a movement to demand accountability. [ [link removed] ]Can
you write to your representatives and urge them to co-sponsor the Big Oil
   Windfall Profits Tax bill?

Americans need relief at the pump — and Big Oil needs to be held
accountable for its greed at the expense of everyone else.
While a Windfall Tax isn’t a complete solution, it’s an important first
step in making polluters pay for the damage they’ve caused to working
   families and the climate.
We need to end the use of fossil fuels. But one of our biggest challenges
in the fight for climate justice is the fact that lawmakers put corporate
profits before the well-being of hard-working Americans.
This is why this bill is so important. It is the start of putting people
   before profit.
And if we can get this through Congress, we’ll not only help working
Americans, we’ll set the precedent for real climate justice. Those who
have profited wildly at the expense of others are finally being asked to
   pay their fair share.

please write to your representatives today
and tell them to sign on as co-sponsors of the Big Oil Windfall Profits
   Tax.
