In just a minute, I’m going to ask you to make a contribution to my re-election campaign before our critical FEC end-of-quarter deadline at midnight. But first, I’d like to explain why your support is so important — especially now.
You might be surprised to hear this, but a significant portion of our campaign’s resources are funded by grassroots contributions to emails just like this one. This week, I was proud to earn the endorsement of End Citizens United because I refuse to accept a single cent of corporate PAC money.
You see, throughout my life, I've experienced firsthand how our broken campaign finance system excludes people of color, working families, and young people from participating in our democracy.
So from day one, I wanted this team to be fueled by hard-working folks chipping in what they could and when they could for a movement we all believe in. I never want there to be a question of who I work for — that answer will always be you.
Look, this isn’t the easy path. And it makes us especially vulnerable to outside attacks now that national Republicans and their mega-donors are gearing up to retake the House. And with our primary election rapidly approaching, we're already facing a primary challenger in addition to multiple GOP opponents.
I’ve seen the power of this grassroots team, and I know if we dig deep and work together to fight for our shared values, we can overcome anything thrown our way.
But I have to admit, with a $9,056 gap to our goal, I’m a little worried we’ll come up short tonight.
