ON THIS DAY, Donald Trump asked James Comey for a way out of the Russian investigation.

Before James Comey was fired by Donald Trump, all the signs were there that the commander in chief planned to use his position to clear his name and hide his shady dealings. On this day five years ago, Trump asked the then director of the FBI to do away with the investigation of possible collusion with Russia because it was "causing him problems."
