Run for Something
John, Florida Governor DeSantis signed the openly discriminatory "Don't Say Gay" bill into law.

This is bullshit, and Run for Something candidates and alumni are already fighting back -- chip in $5 or more to support diverse young progressives who won't force LGBTQIA+ kids, families, or teachers back into the closet.

For the immediate impact this bill has, look no further than Run for Something candidate for Florida state Senate Janelle Perez's statement:

Janelle Perez Tweet: Governor DeSantis just signed the #Don't Say Gay bill, while doubling down on calling families like mine groomers. You don't have to understand my family in order to respect our existence. My statement is below. It is shameful to see the Governor attack families like mine and some of the most vulnerable children in our community. My wife and I have fought hard to have our family. I survived stage 4 cancer and we went through extensive rounds and years of IVF. Under Florida's current leadership, my rights as a parent and wife are dwindling. weeks before my first daughter was born, it became legal in the state of Florida for me to sign her birth certificate. And less than five years later, my second daughter was born on the same day the Don't Say Gay bill passed the Florida legislature. If the Governor truly wants to support parents and teachers, he would prioritize solving real problems such as child care access, the housing crisis, and the fact that our children already know how to hide under their desks due to the risk of an active shooter. I am holding my family extra close today because love will always win

Full stop: This bill is going to hurt millions of LGBTQIA+ community members, reinforcing harmful ideas that they are different or even perverse instead of loved and accepted.

The full extent of this law won't be fully realized for months or even years to come -- and it won't stay in Florida. 15 other states have similar bills coming up that will make this active bigotry a national standard.

We must continue supporting LGBTQIA+ candidates and allies in state and local offices, because that's where these hateful laws start.

Chip in $5 or more to take a stand against queer erasure and build a future where we can actually make progress, not just fight to defend basic rights.

Let's go,
