Anti-choice lawmakers across the country are moving ahead with abortion bans modeled after Texas’ vigilante-enforced SB 8. Knowing that the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly refused to stop Texas’ blatantly unconstitutional law, lawmakers in 20 states and counting are feverishly introducing and advancing unconstitutional bans on abortion modeled after the Texas ban.

Just this week, Idaho became the first state to sign into law one of these copycat bans. A similar bill in Oklahoma also advanced and more bills like it are under consideration in additional states.

The Idaho bill bans abortion at about six weeks of pregnancy, which is before many people even know they’re pregnant. Modeled after the draconian Texas law, this bill would allow a pregnant person’s family members to sue abortion providers.

Although this is not the first copycat ban modeled after Texas’ SB 8, it is the first to be signed into law. When it goes into effect, it could make abortion care nearly impossible to access in Idaho—with consequences that would reverberate across the country.

I'm going to be straight with you: We don’t have the resources to fight every one of these bills. The deluge is just too great. That’s why we’re so focused on changing the system—electing reproductive freedom champions up and down the ballot. But we need your help.
