Friend,

Earlier this month, the Biden Administration announced that it is designating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Ukrainians living in the United States in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Additionally, the Biden Administration has also announced the designation of TPS to Afghans in the U.S.

There are approximately 75,100 Ukrainians and approximately 75,000 Afghans living in the U.S. that are eligible to apply for TPS under the new designations.

For Ukrainians, the TPS designation applies to any Ukrainian that was present in the U.S. on or before March 1, 2022 while for Afghans, the TPS designation applies to individuals already residing in the U.S. as of March 15, 2022. For both countries, TPS protections are valid for 18 months.

Those that are approved and granted TPS will be protected from deportation and returning to a country that is not safe as well as be allowed to continue to work, pay taxes and raise their families in the U.S.

The new TPS designations to Ukraine and Afghanistan is welcome news. This is one way the United States can help Ukrainian and Afghan immigrants whose native countries have been struck by violence, terror and uncertainty.

The same needs to be done for migrants from Central America, Black-majority countries in Africa and other countries too dangerous to receive deportees safely.

The Biden Administration has the power to grant TPS to Central American countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador, as well as other countries facing armed conflicts and violence, such as Cameroon, Nepal, Lebanon, Ethiopia and Mauritania.

Executive actions such as designating or redesignating TPS to countries that need it is one way for the Biden Administration to deliver meaningful progress and advance America’s interest and our values by welcoming and protecting immigrants. President Biden must use his power to provide relief.

Contact your members of Congress TODAY at (202) 224-3121 and tell them to demand that the Biden-Harris administration grant TPS to immigrants who, like Ukrainians, are also fleeing war and violence>>>

Granting TPS to countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Cameroon and Ethiopia not only benefits the immigrant communities but also the American community.

We cannot turn our backs on immigrants that need our help - regardless of where they come from. Recognizing that they cannot return to dangerous and unsafe countries is exactly why TPS was created in the first place. The Biden Administration must extend and provide TPS to all the countries that need it.

Thank you for taking action,
