Friends,
Corporate greed is putting everyday Americans through the wringer during an already difficult time.
Just take a look at oil companies. The price of a barrel of oil is now under $100, well below its peak of over $130 two weeks ago. But the higher prices we pay at the pump remain steady. Why?Big oil is trying to pad their pockets, increasing their profits while the rest of us pay for it.
But it’s not just oil. We’re seeing shameless price gouging across industries. Americans are now paying more to put food on the table. While some blame this on inflation, the price hikes we’re seeing are much larger – several times larger – than the rate of inflation. No, these outrageous increases are driven by profiteering, plain and simple.
When the supply of vital goods is controlled by just a few big corporations, they can set the price as high as they want. As President Biden said during his State of the Union address earlier this month, “Capitalism without competition is exploitation.”
