Just when you think the GQP can’t sink any lower, Marjorie Traitor Greene fires up her webcam and proves you wrong.

In case you missed it, Marge took to Facebook Live last night to give a ten-minute speech about her thoughts on the war in Ukraine.

Actually, that’s too generous – let’s try again: Marge took to Facebook Live last night to give a ten-minute speech outlining Vladimir Putin’s talking points on the war in Ukraine.

There, that’s much more accurate.

Lest you think we’re exaggerating, let us fill you in: Marge began her speech with a pack of lies accusing both Russia AND Ukraine of “violating peace agreements,” said Ukraine’s violations were what led to Putin’s decision to invade, and that “both sides” are at fault.

This is total hogwash, of course. 

The only “peace agreement” Ukraine violated was the one forced on it after Russia seized part of Ukraine and started funding Russian insurgents in the Eastern parts of the country, resulting in thousands of civilian deaths and the decimation of its military forces.

Ukraine was backed into a corner, and signing the agreement was the only chance they had at stopping further advancement by the Russians.

It’s also worth noting that Russia’s official position is that only Ukraine has any responsibilities under the agreement, and Russia can continue to do what it likes. Putin has refused to act on any the requirements laid out by the agreement, while Ukraine has made significant forward progress on all of them.

If anyone has violated the terms of the agreement, it’s Russia, not Ukraine.

The Washington Post’s Philip Bump put it best: “If your next-door neighbor takes over your garage and the police make both you and them agree not to fight, you do not give up your moral position if you then throw eggs at their house.”

But that wasn’t the worst thing Marge said last night.  Her proposal for “ending the war” was both horrifyingly callous and shockingly naïve. It sounded like it came straight out of Vladimir Putin’s twisted psyche.

See, Marge thinks Putin’s victory is basically inevitable, so the kindest thing for the rest of the world, including America, to do would be to turn our backs on the Ukrainian people so Putin can win the war faster.

Marge’s “logic” is that the longer the Ukrainian people fight for their freedom, the more of them will suffer and die, so it’s better to put them out of their misery by just letting Putin have what he wants without a fight.

“It’s not our responsibility to give [President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people false hope about a war they cannot win,” said Marge. It was, without a doubt, music to Putin’s ears.

Now, obviously, Marge’s “logic” discounts the well-documented cruelty of Putin’s leadership, especially in places where people have dared to resist him. 

But it’s also pretty ironic coming from a woman who called on American citizens to fight and even die for their “right” not to wear a small scrap of fabric over their nose and mouth or take a perfectly safe vaccine during a global pandemic.

Apparently, in Marge’s view, freedom from a murderous, tyrannical dictator isn’t worth that same kind of effort.

Folks, this is what the GQP has become – the Party of Putin, a fan club for authoritarian thugs. 

This is the same party, after all, that tried to – and still would, if they could – overturn our free and fair election and install their orange-faced wannabe dictator as President for Life. 

It’s the same party that excused that deadly coup attempt as “legitimate political discourse.”

It’s the party of people like Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott, who talk a big game about “freedom,” but also want to dictate who you can have in your bedroom, where you can go to the bathroom, and what you can do with your own body … and God help you if you expose kids to any truths that make white, homophobic, fundamentalist evangelicals feel icky inside.

It’s the party of Marjorie “Traitor” Greene.

We’re proud to have endorsed Marge’s opponent in this year’s election, Army Veteran Marcus Flowers, along with dozens of other candidates who are bravely challenging the Party of Putin.

We’re going to fight like hell to protect and expand our Democratic majorities and send the GQP’s wannabe-dictators back to the fringe of politics, where they belong, but we’ll need your help to do it.

We need to take our inspiration from President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people and spare no expense to crush the GQP’s authoritarian invasion.
