John,

Last May, the Healthy Delaware Families Act was introduced to create a statewide paid family and medical leave insurance program.

Since then, I've been advocating with state lawmakers to ensure the legislation holds true to its purpose of providing 12 weeks of paid family leave and medical leave a year, including twelve weeks of parental leave and 6 weeks of family caregiving and medical leave. It would also benefit small business employers by helping them attract young professionals into the workforce.

The bill’s prime sponsor, Senator Sarah McBride recently invited me to a roundtable discussion to introduce new legislation that would create a family and medical leave trust fund in Delaware modeled after similar programs already operating in nine other states, as well as in D.C.

I’m committed to this fight in guaranteeing that paid family and medical leave is commonplace in Delaware — but if we’re going to make an impact, we urgently need to show strong public support for this crucial bill. John, will you sign this petition right away to help us improve paid family leave in Delaware?

As a caregiver, a mother, a wife, and healthcare worker, I know how important this bill is. When I was a young physician's assistant, working 70-80 hours a week, exhausted, and about to deliver a baby - I was terrified. I was working up until the very night I gave birth. On top of that, I only got 6 weeks of paid time off. It was a horrible feeling knowing I may not have a job if I had to stay home with my son for more than 6 weeks.

Living through this experience has given me a first hand perspective of the harsh realities that other working people face when it comes to paid leave. Whether we are discussing postpartum care, the death of a loved one, recovering from illness - we all can benefit from this.

Nobody should have to choose between a paycheck and caring for their loved ones’ health and well-being.

But in order to keep this bill moving, we need to show strong public support to help make paid family leave commonplace in the workforce. Add your name now to become a civilian co-sponsor of this impactful bill >>

Thanks for using your voice to empower Delaware working families.
