Naming Ceremony for the USS Richard G. Lugar
When Senator Richard Lugar passed away in April of this year, Indiana and the entire country lost a great statesman. It was clear to me in the days after his passing that our country needed to do something significant in his memory that recognizes his legacy as a Navy veteran, a public servant, and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Today, I was joined by the Secretary of the Navy at the Indiana War Memorial to announce such tribute. A future Naval guided-missile destroyer will now be named in his honor. Learn more here.

Nominees for the United States Service Academies
Last week, I had the privilege of recommending a talented group of Hoosiers for admission to the United States service academies. These young men and women are highly qualified to serve our country and I’m very proud of their hard work. I wish them the best of luck in their application process.
Falling Rates of Entrepreneurship
Since the recession, economic dynamism and startup rates have been at an all-time low, especially for those living in rural areas. From 2012 to 2018, rural counties accounted for just one percent of business establishment and job growth among all U.S. counties. Recognizing this lag in entrepreneurship in Indiana and our country, I signed on to cosponsor the Enhancing Entrepreneurship for the 21st Century Act to end this startup slump and encourage American entrepreneurship and small business creation for all Hoosiers.
Global Economic Security Strategy Legislation
Predatory economic practices by China and other strategic competitors has the potential to weaken America’s national security and our standing in the world. We must combat these predatory practices by working together with our like-minded partners and allies around the globe. As such, I introduced bipartisan legislation that would help ensure that our different government agencies work together and with partners around the world to create coordinated policies to promote and protect our economic security. Global stability and the national security of the United States depends in large part on a vibrant, growing, and secure economy, this legislation seeks to ensure the U.S. responds in the most effective manner possible to international predatory economic practices.
