Hi John,
As inflation rises, the negative impact of unchecked corporate power has reached an all-time high. During the pandemic, corporations have made record profits as they have jacked up costs for consumers beyond what their business expenses require. Now, millions of Americans are struggling to afford everyday goods such as food and gas. And for decades, concentrated corporate power has also prevented workers from reaching their full potential, kept wages stagnant, and widened wealth inequality.
The broken merger-review process at the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice has allowed dominant corporations to proceed with anticompetitive mergers, driving up prices for consumers and crushing workers in the process.
In Congress, Mondaire is focused on protecting working families just like the one he grew up in. That’s why today, he announced he’s introducing the Prohibiting Anticompetitive Mergers Act with Senator Elizabeth Warren. This critical antitrust legislation will protect workers, consumers, and small businesses.
This legislation confronts obscene levels of corporate power by overhauling the merger-review process, banning the biggest mergers, and strengthening antitrust agencies' tools to unravel existing mergers.
Tackling corporate greed is an important step in our work to combat inflation and protect workers. Mondaire is leading the charge to build a more democratic, vibrant economy that works for every American — not just the wealthy and well-connected.
Thank you for joining us in this fight.
