** DAYS OF GIVING
------------------------------------------------------------

We are so grateful to have finally been able to distribute the funds we collected for the Bronx fire victims and families. On February 25th, we distributed more than 110 checks to the residents of the building and the victims' families. Thank you once again to the Angela Patri school for hosting us for the distribution and to the thousands of donors who gave. We still have a dozen more checks to write to those members who were not on the lease and those who couldn't come to pick up the checks. Check out the news coverage we received here. MCN launched its Spring Cohort of the Muslim Youth NYC Program this past Saturday. We're so excited to have 17 Civic Fellows with us this time. Each fellow goes through an 8-week program in civics and designs their own community project. We can't wait to see what projects our fellows will conduct this cycle!

This year's high school partnerships include:

Frederick Douglass Academy ii

Highschool of Construction Trades Engineering and Architecture

Thurgood Marshall Academy

Razi School

Al Noor School

James Madison High School

Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics

The Bronx High School of Science

High School of Community Leadership

Newtown High School

Our youth are truly trailblazers when given the opportunity to discuss and participate in civics. For example, our Youth Advisory Board is holding regular youth conversations on issues that are important to them. In February, they held a convo with their peers on Black History Month, led by our program coordinator, Maryam Khaldi. We are so proud at MCN to help create platforms for Muslim youth to engage in discussion about issues important to them!

Check out this civic engagement event our Youth Advisory Board members are putting together this week!

On Feb. 23rd, we held a virtual Diversity Education meeting that discussed Islam's contributions to the king of music, which is Blues music. Historian Dr. Sylviane Diouf presented on how the origins of Blues music were in the ways the Quran and call to prayer (Azaan) used to be recited when the first Muslims arrived in the continent as slaves. All to say that Islam's roots in American history is deep and has had many positive contributions to the development of our nation.

Alongside our regular programs is our Muslim Women's Civic Empowerment Program. This week, our program coordinator, Musfika Moshahid led a session with our women's group on women's empowerment.

As we get prepared for Ramadan to kick off next month, we've curated a number of events for you all to participate in. Please join us to volunteer and be in the community with each other as we celebrate the blessed month.

Thank you to our donors and supporters as always for helping us sustain our work. Please consider a donation of $50, $100, $250 to help us continue building a Muslim institution that empowers our community!

With Gratitude,

Aniqa Nawabi
