Councilmember Trayon White's statement following the arrest of a DYRS employee accused of having inappropriate sexual relations with an underaged girl at a youth detention center.

(Washington, DC) — The following is a statement by Councilmember Trayon White, Sr., regarding the DYRS employee charged with sexually abusing a 17-year-old girl in custody.

"As Chair of the Committee on Recreation, Libraries and Youth Affairs, I have oversight of the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS). I am outraged and concerned about the recent allegations of inappropriate sexual acts against a minor held in a DYRS facility by a staff person.

"We have no tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse and take all allegations of misconduct seriously. We are committed to addressing these allegations. I am calling an emergency oversight hearing to get to the bottom of this matter," stated Councilmember Trayon White.
