Friends — we wanted to be sure you saw Ed's note from earlier this week.

Can you take a couple minutes to read it, and then add your name to his petition demanding an end to fossil-fueled wars, and supporting our clean energy revolution and a Green New Deal?

Thanks in advance for adding your name today.

Friends –

I’m writing today to ask you to add your name to my petition demanding an end to fossil-fueled wars, and supporting our clean energy revolution and a Green New Deal in order to save our planet.

I’ll explain more in just a minute, but if that’s all you need to hear, please, add your name to my petition to end fossil-fueled wars using this link. This is important.

Here’s the situation: Last week, President Biden announced a ban on Russian oil, natural gas, and coal imports in response to Vladmir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

This is a great start toward solving a very serious problem, and I’m pleased the White House has joined the bipartisan consensus in Congress to cut off a major source of funding for Putin’s crimes, corruption, and human rights abuses.

The crucial next step must be to make the ban on Russian energy imports permanent, and most importantly, begin a transformative shift toward clean, renewable energy sources and a Green New Deal. The United States should never again be complicit in a fossil-fuel related conflict, and the clock is ticking if we’re going to save our planet from climate catastrophe.

Unsurprisingly, even among the bipartisan consensus to cut off Putin’s cash cow, there’s major disagreement on these next steps.

The Republican Party and Big Oil lobbyists like the American Petroleum Institute are trying to use this crisis to push for MORE drilling, MORE sweetheart deals and tax breaks for the fossil fuel companies, MORE lands and waters lost to extraction, and MORE unfettered profits for the people most responsible for the climate crisis.

The Republicans’ push here isn’t about fighting inflation or lowering costs for the American people — it’s about inflating the corporate profits, executive bonuses, and shareholder value for their friends at the fossil fuel companies. Plain and simple.

Here’s a fact: Exxon, Chevron, and Conoco made $46 billion in profits in 2021. Big Oil is absolutely raking it in, raising prices, and taking advantage of the war in Ukraine and bloody conflicts around the world so they can line their pockets with dirty fossil fuel money and push for more drilling here and abroad.

More, more, more, more, more. Unacceptable.

We must act strongly and swiftly to reject these bad-faith, opportunistic arguments, and rapidly accelerate the clean energy revolution in America.

Union-powered, renewable energy will put us on the pathway to peace, and our progressive movement for climate justice needs to stand together on this issue if we’re going to succeed. So that’s why I’m asking for your support today:

Add your name to my petition demanding an end to fossil-fueled wars, and supporting our clean energy revolution and a Green New Deal. The time to act is NOW. [[link removed]]

This reality is within our grasp. We can start by passing the $555 billion in clean energy and climate justice provisions we already have in front of us.

As you know, our fight will not always be easy, and our opponents have near-limitless resources — but we have our movement, and that’s far more powerful than anything they can throw at us.

Thank you, as always, for being a part of it.

In solidarity,

Ed Markey
