Hi there —

The 2022 legislative session ended last night, and I wanted to give you a few updates on what we accomplished this year and what’s next.

We’ll be in touch with more about this past session as we move forward, but here are a few wins that I am especially proud of today:
Protecting access to abortion and reproductive care here in Washington while Roe vs. Wade is under attack across the country. I’ll always stay committed to the rights of all patients to safely and easily access the healthcare they want and need. Everyone deserves to have their healthcare needs met. And while states like Idaho and Texas tear down reproductive rights, we worked to enshrine reproductive healthcare access into our laws.

Move Ahead WA is a transformative transportation investment package that signals a new approach to transportation in our state. For years, we haven't invested in the infrastructure needs that keep our communities connected and employed, our economy humming, and resources moving from place to place. I'm proud that we took a huge step to fund a working, well-connected future, and I'm hopeful about Washington's clean, green transportation future.

Strengthening access to our nation-leading financial aid and better integrating apprenticeships into our higher ed system. As a first-gen college grad chairing the Senate’s Higher Ed & Workforce Development committee — I know that education is a gateway to opportunity. That’s why we created the Washington Career and College Pathways Innovation Challenge Program, to connect students and trusted community members, to ensure folks have all the information & support they need when deciding which path to take. And it’s why we passed an apprenticeship policy that gives journeyworkers transferable academic credit for their many hours of training. So that if the economy or personal circumstances causes someone to need to pivot or grow, they don’t have to start back at the beginning of a degree. These policies are good for our economy, good for our communities, good for families.

I am proud of these policies and many, many more. But even as we accomplished so much — our community constantly reminds me of how much work we have left to do.

That is why — now that the 2022 session is now over — I am committed to doing everything I can to win re-election this November. I’ll be knocking on the doors of my neighbors, attending community events, spending hours on the phone with voters, and trying to raise the money we will need to get our message out and defend our record against the attacks from special interests that are sure to come.
That last piece is critical since the legislative fundraising freeze has meant we could not raise money these previous three months. It means we are already a little behind our goals for 2022.

I am reaching out now, hoping you can help us get off to an impressive start. We have 20 days left in March, and we need to show we have the support necessary to win. Can I count on you to donate today to help us kickstart our 2022 campaign and help us hit the early goals that will help us win this race? [[link removed]]

So looking forward to talking to you about this session and our future goals. I appreciate your support in these efforts. Thank you for your consideration.

In gratitude,
Emily
