Hey John: This is the second of three emails breaking down my biggest policy proposals. This one is about protecting our environment. If you're too busy to read or are already on board, click here to support my campaign and help me put this plan into action! Thank you.

John,

Climate change is real. And extreme storms, deadly droughts, and unpredictable temperatures are costing taxpayers billions of dollars – not to mention hundreds of lives.

Meanwhile, Congress is asleep at the wheel with no plan to stop it.

Lauren Boebert thinks it’s all a hoax and her Republican colleagues deny the science in favor of dangerous conspiracies.

That’s the problem…

Here’s how we fix it:

Get on the same page → Politicians make it seem like we need to choose between saving the polar bears or the economy. But in reality, protecting our environment and boosting our bottom-line is one and the same. I support creating good-paying jobs by investing in reforestation and renewable energies, passing carbon tax incentives to hold polluting corporations accountable, and providing tax credits for middle class families who go green.

John
, those who care about climate change and those who care about the economy should agree: The world is moving away from coal towards wind, solar, and renewable energies. Colorado is aiming to be 100% powered by green energy by 2040 –that means putting folks in our district to work!

Get wet → The world is getting hotter and Colorado is getting drier -- yet California's golf courses have never looked better. We need to tax states who use our water and give that money back to Coloradans.

Our water is not charity. It’s life – and it must be protected so we can reap the benefits for years to come. I propose recycling gray-water for agriculture and commercial power and protecting the clean water we do have for our communities. And as climate change makes water and other resources more scarce in parts of our country, we need leaders who understand the importance of what we have and how we can keep it.

Get it together → Senate Bill 181 protected communities from drilling outposts -- yet today, there’s proposed drilling just 2,000 feet from CD3 homes. For too long, our leaders have looked the other way while our communities are ravaged by greedy oil companies pushing policies for corporate profit. We need to wake up to the dangers of these policies. Pollution from oil drilling is responsible for more than 13% of deaths in people aged 14 and older. It’s unacceptable.

Idealism is great, but our ideals are useless without representatives who will defend and enforce them. I refuse to be a mouthpiece for corporate interests, and I won't just pay lip service to issues that are literally life-and-death. I will fight to protect our environment and the people of our great state by standing up for policies that work.

Climate change is the most urgent issue of our generation, we need folks in Congress to start acting like it.

And we can’t afford to waste precious time bickering about conspiracies or throwing out idealistic bills that excite one side but have no chance of making it into law.

We need policies that put Coloradans to work, provide tax cuts for adopting new technologies, and hold the worst polluters responsible.

Thank you,

Alex
