Tell me your freelance horror story.

Dear friend,

In 2020 alone, the roughly one third of Americans who freelance or work on contract contributed nearly $1 trillion to the national economy. Millions of New Yorkers across New York State are freelance workers. Our economy depends on their efforts – and it’s time we protect them statewide.

That’s why I’m introducing the ‘Freelance Isn’t Free’ Act along with Assemblymember Harry Bronson and the Freelancers Union.

If passed, the ‘Freelance Isn’t Free’ Act in New York State would:

✍️ Ensure freelancers receive contracts for the work they perform

✍️ Require freelancers be paid within 30 days of their work being         completed (unless otherwise agreed to in a contract)

✍️ Allow the Department of Labor to protect and enforce freelancers’ rights across NYS

If you’re a freelancer, I want to hear from you! Listen to my interview on The Brian Lehrer Show and then tell me your freelancer horror story and how the ‘Freelance Isn’t Free’ Act can help you.

Just as we’re seeing a resurgence of workers’ rights across the country, from unionization efforts to demands for better wages and working conditions, the fight to ensure freelancers get paid is yet another way we can support working people.

Let’s make freelancer horror stories a thing of the past, together.

In Solidarity,

Andrew
