Mid-Week Recap: Progress as Crossover Approaches

Crossover is approaching - Day 28 (this year occurring on March 15) of the legislative session, when legislation must have passed its Chamber of origin in order to have a chance of becoming law.

As life at the Capitol hits its hyper-speed, we wanted to update you on a few happenings:

School Choice Not Done Yet - Much has been made of the school choice issue in Georgia - in fact, recent fallout has made national headlines. We will avoid commentary on that, but SB 601 was recently introduced by Senator Butch Miller to jumpstart the issue in the Senate; and that bill has passed the Senate Education and Youth Committee! Send emails to thank the six committee members AND the bill's sponsor for their leadership:

Senate Passes Ban on Business with Russia - We are proud to have supported Senator Jeff Mullis in his efforts to prevent the state of Georgia from doing any business with companies owned or operated by the Russian government. Georgia dollars should reflect Georgia values. Today, his bill to that effect, SB 562, passed the Senate.

On the Frontline Against Gambling Expansion - Today, Frontline partnered with our allies to host a press conference opposing gambling expansion. This atrocious public policy is bad for mental health, for our economy, for crime, for families and children, for communities, and more. It doesn't work, and it is a bad bet for Georgia. Though a large amount of out-of-state money is flooding in, and we are battling dozens of pro-gambling lobbyists, we remain unafraid to speak out against any and all efforts to compromise the character of our state.

We continue to remain vigilant, and we will keep working - our whole team - to deliver as many wins for you and your family as possible.

For Georgia,

Cole Muzio
