A couple of weeks back, we sounded the alarm about Donald Trump’s underhanded plan to fund and install his handpicked lackeys as Secretaries of State in key battleground states nationwide.

While Trump distracts the nation with unhinged internet missives and the disastrous launch of “Truth Social,” he’s been quietly funneling his $122 MILLION campaign war chest into candidates for these traditionally non-partisan positions who are loyal to him and believe his Big Lie that he, not President Biden, won the 2020 election.

Well, he was doing it quietly, right up until last weekend, anyway.

Trump spoke for almost an hour and a half to the GOP’s top donors at a fundraising event in New Orleans on Saturday.

The rambling speech included high praise for North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un (“Total control!” he said of Kim’s hold over his people. “His people were sitting at attention. I looked at my people and I said I want my people to act like that!” Kim Jong Un, of course, is known to throw his people into concentration camps for failure to obey his whims.)

He also proposed an insane plan to paint American F-22 fighters with Chinese colors, “bomb the s*** out of Russia,” and blame it on the Chinese so that Russia and China will go to war with each other: “And then we say, China did it, we didn’t do it, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other and we sit back and watch!” said Trump. (China does not own any F-22 aircraft, a fact of which Vladimir Putin is presumably well-aware.)

But the most important and frightening part of his speech was the last 30 minutes, when he started rehashing The Big Lie and urged the GOP to get control of the election process and back up his false claims of fraud. 

Said Trump to the crowd: “The vote counter is often more important than the candidate.”

That’s exactly why Trump is dumping millions into these obscure races for Secretary of State – because they’re the ones who count the votes … and more importantly, decide which votes are counted. 

If Trump succeeds in taking control of how the votes are counted in battleground states, he’ll be totally unstoppable, and democracy as we know it will be finished.

His handpicked candidates are already proposing sweeping changes to our electoral system, including allowing endless audits, letting partisan state legislatures reject official election results, eliminating vote-by-mail, and more.

And that doesn’t even touch on the numerous Republican-led attacks on voting rights that have already become law since 2020!

The fact is, this is nothing less than a slow-motion coup by Trump and his loyalists in the Republican Party.

And it’s up to you and me to stop it.

Trump has already shown us how far he’s willing to go to grasp and cling to power.

The Jan. 6 Commission has revealed that he was ready to seize voting machines, call in the military, throw away legally-cast ballots, forge false certification documents declaring him the winner, and/or have the Supreme Court overturn the election.

The ONLY reason Trump’s plot failed was because a handful of brave Secretaries of State refused to go along with it. Now just like his heroes Kim and Putin, he wants to make them pay for their “disloyalty” – and replace them with handpicked cronies who will do his bidding.

So far, there are more than 20 candidates running for Secretary of State who deny that President Biden won the 2020 election, and Trumpworld’s involvement in these races has transformed them from sedate and obscure down-ballot contests to all-out war.

Like in Georgia, where Congressman Jody Hice is challenging Brad Raffensperger, the Republican incumbent who bravely refused to “find 11,780 votes” to flip the state for Trump.

Hice has been one of the most vocal supporters of Trump’s Big Lie.  He tried to stop certification of Biden’s presidency and petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the election for Trump. And he’s already raised twice as much as Raffensberger has in the campaign for Secretary of State.
