Happy Saturday. âï¸
Welcome to another weekend edition of FT Now! A new ad in the Louisiana
governor's race exposes some uncomfortable realities about John Bel
Edwards decision to commute the sentences of 15 violent offenders in
2016. Read below to find out what we mean. Democrat darling AOC may have
put her foot in her mouth this week when it comes to impeachment. Last
but not least, Elizabeth Warren's plan how she's fund "Medicare For
All" prompted one of her primary rivals to label it "mathematical
gymnastics." Keep reading for more!
New Digital Ad in Louisiana's Governor Race Points Out John Bel
Edwards' Role in Releasing Violent Offenders
What Happened:
An ad released this week exposes how Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards
commuted the prison sentences of 15 convicted murderers in 2016 - making
them eligible for early prison release.
Why You Should Care:
In a recent debate, Gov. Edwards repeatedly insisted that "not one"
violent offender had been freed under his watch. As the ad points out,
that's not entirely the whole story. One of the prisoners who ended up
getting released early had been serving a life sentence for killing an
innocent husband and father in cold blood.
What Happens Next:
Today is Election Day in Louisiana, so voters will be going to the polls
to decide between Democrat Gov. Edwards or Republican Eddie Rispone.

Elizabeth Warren Releases Medicare For All Plan
What Happened:
Democratic presidential frontrunner Elizabeth Warren finally responded
to calls to explain how she'd pay for Medicare for All. In doing so,
she promised not to raise taxes on the middle class.
Why You Should Care:
While the no-middle-class-taxes promised grabbed most of the headlines,
many are saying "not so fast." The plan, which assumes a $52 trillion
price tag in order to eliminate private health insurance, relies on
various spending and revenue assumptions that many say are unrealistic.
Even the Biden campaign call it "mathematical gymnastics."
What Happens Next:
Warren continues to defend her plan - and the idea that we'll be able
to pay for it in part with things like cuts in military spending and
comprehensive immigration reform. The rest of us...will continue to not
buy it.

Ocasio-Cortez: Impeaching Trump "is about preventing a potentially
disastrous outcome" in 2020
What Happened:
Democratic-Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said in a CNN
interview that impeachment is not only about unifying the Democratic
Party, but it's also at least partly about preventing President Trump
from winning re-election next year.
Why You Should Care:
Democrats have repeatedly claimed impeachment proceedings are NOT
partisan and it's all about defending the Constitution...Can we cut
the charades now?
What Happens Next:
Democrats continue full steam ahead on impeachment, ignoring issues
Americans actually care about...
