Last night, President Biden gave his State of the Union address. He spoke eloquently about many issues, both at home and abroad, but the quote that stuck with me the most was when he described the people of Ukraine like this:
“A proud, proud people, pound-for-pound ready to fight with every inch of energy they have … [and] have repeatedly shown that they will not tolerate anyone who tries to take their country backwards.”
Folks, as we head into this year’s midterms, let that be our rallying cry!
This November is about more than politics and policy. It’s a fight for the soul of – heck, the very survival of – the American experiment.
We have overwhelming evidence that Donald Trump was, if not a full-blown Russian plant, at least heavily manipulated by Vladimir Putin and a key part of the Kremlin’s plan to destabilize the United States.
We have traitors like Trump, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, Josh Hawley, Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell cashing massive campaign checks from oligarchs with strong ties to Putin and openly praising Putin in public – or at least giving him aid and comfort by blaming President Biden and our allies in NATO, the EU and Canada for his naked aggression.
In the face of what looks an awful lot like treason to me, Republican Party leaders can’t even bring themselves to call these folks out by name and condemn their actions.
That means it’s up to you and me.
The rural and working-class voters who have been increasingly sucked in by Putin’s online misinformation campaigns and Trump and his pack of grifters deserve to know who’s really pulling the strings behind today’s Republican Party.
And you and I have to fight with the same determination and passion as the Ukrainian people against those who would take our country backwards.
The GQP has made no bones about their plans for America should they regain control of Congress. Roe vs. Wade? Gone. Voting rights? Only protected if you’re a white, able-bodied, heterosexual, Christian man. Civil rights? Same deal.
Today’s GQP wants to turn America into the same kind of macho, white nationalist, authoritarian hellscape Putin has built in Russia over the last 20 years. They won’t be happy until our government looks just like Putin’s – a few rich old white men funneling billions of dollars to their government yes-men while everyone who isn’t white, wealthy, well-connected and willing to do their bidding is forced to fight each other for scraps below their table.
I, for one, want no part of that nightmare scenario, and I trust you don’t, either.
That’s why I hope you’ll join me in the fight to take down the party of Putin now, before it’s too late, by chipping in any amount to No Dem Left Behind today.
