Never underestimate how a strong leader can uplift his people to do the impossible.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is showing the world what it means to put your life on the line for your people. He is defending his homeland and he has the entire world behind him … but more importantly, he has the Ukrainian people serving together, locked arm-in-arm, all willing to die for the cause.
Ukraine is showing the world that no matter how strong the enemy or seemingly insurmountable the cause, a people united will never be defeated.
The Ukranians have taken out many of the bridges and roads leading into Kyiv and they have destroyed Russian helicopters, tanks, and even a few jets.
This has to be embarrassing for Putin because the news only gets worse for him now.
You can have a completely dominant military, equipment, and training, but if your forces face an enemy that is willing to die for their cause, you can't defeat them – especially if your own forces don’t even want to fight, as we’re seeing with the numerous reports of Russian troops who have put down their weapons and surrendered.
Putin thought his superior numbers meant he could completely overwhelm the Ukrainian army, take over the country, install a puppet government, and retreat, pretending like he was never there.
He did not imagine that so many Ukranains would heed the call to take up arms and defend their homeland, which they did, and they’re putting up one hell of a fight.
Reminds me a lot of our Revolutionary War, to be honest with you. Conventional wisdom said we didn’t stand a chance against the mighty British army with their land and sea dominance over our troops, farmers, and average common folk. What happened is we had a great leader – one of only two six-star generals in the history of the United States – George Washington. He inspired the farmers to pick up arms and fight for a noble cause, and fast-forward a few hundred years and we are the most dominant country the world has ever seen.
The world once again looks to us for leadership, and believe me when I say this: The world will remember what Putin is doing, and how President Biden and the Americans have responded.
Shifting focus a bit, last night Donald Trump declared at the Nazi-fest they call CPAC that he is running for President again in 2024, and he has Putin's full and complete support.
Okay, okay, I'm kidding, he didn’t say that second part. But we all know it’s true; the evidence that Trump has been in bed with Putin from the start is overwhelming. Even the GOP’s wannabe House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy said as far back as 2016 that he thought Trump was on Putin’s payroll. And Trump said on the day Putin invaded Ukraine that his war plan was “genius,” “savvy,” and “wonderful.”
Between Trump’s praise for Putin and yesterday’s disgusting display at AFPAC (the even more Nazified version of CPAC), where Marjorie Traitor Greene and Paul Gosar spoke in front of a crowd that chanted “Putin! Putin!” before they took the stage, it’s become abundantly clear that the Republican Party is the party of Putin.
We can’t allow that to stand. There’s no room for authoritarian, fascist thugs in our American democracy, no room for those who cheer them on, and no room for those who, like the GOP leadership, sit quietly and do nothing in the face of such evil.
We need to take a page out of the Ukrainian playbook and fight like hell to defend our democracy from Putin and his paid thugs, the GQP. They may have the overwhelming advantage when it comes to the millions in dark money flowing into their campaign war chests, but we’re the ones fighting for a righteous cause.
Together, we can send a powerful message to Putin’s puppets here in the U.S. – we are united, and we won’t hand over our democracy without a fight.
