John,

Thank you so much for taking this journey with me. For over a year, we’ve worked tirelessly together for the city and our neighborhoods that we love.

This was the closest supervisorial race in recent memory and in the end, it came down to less than two hundred votes. Out of due diligence, over the last week, my team has consulted with experts on the possibility of a recount. But we've determined that the chances of any change in the result are too slim to justify the time and cost.

I want to congratulate Dean Preston. He ran a strong campaign and I’ll be rooting for his success as supervisor.

When I was called to serve at City Hall, first as an aide and then as supervisor, I have often said that I brought our community with me. And I have never felt that more strongly than after this campaign.

Our community is bigger than any one of us, and though my time as your supervisor may be coming to a close, I am certainly not going anywhere. This community is my life, and I will be right here, working alongside you in any way that I can because we’re all in this together.

District 5 is the heart of San Francisco. These neighborhoods are where I found a home and a community when I moved here more than 25 years ago.

It was here I saw the power of individual neighbors coming together block-by-block to make life better. It was here I worked alongside you to clean up our streets, plant trees, keep a local school open, and protect our neighbors from violence and environmental pollution. And it is here where I will continue to work to make things better, in any way that I can in the years ahead.

I’m also incredibly proud of what we were able to achieve together at City Hall. In my 15 months in office, we passed over 30 pieces of legislation unanimously, tackling some of our toughest issues head-on.

We created the first navigation center and safe parking program for people living out of their cars and RVs and legislated to build hundreds of new apartments on Divisadero with 20% and 23% affordable housing units. We started San Francisco’s first Office of Racial Equity, prohibited retail stores from not accepting cash, and stood up for women’s rights by ending City business with states that ban abortion. And we moved San Francisco towards a clean power future by mandating 100% renewable energy in our largest commercial buildings and introducing groundbreaking legislation to end natural gas use in all new construction.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
