John,

In honor of Black History Month, I want to highlight my priorities in fighting for social justice and equity for the Black community.

While I’m proud to represent our progressive city, we still have a long way to go in achieving equality. Though San Francisco was once dubbed “the Harlem of the West,” today, Black San Franciscans – including my own family members – are increasingly being forced out of the city in the face of expanding gentrification. In 1970, one in seven San Franciscans identified as Black. Today, that statistic stands at one in 20.

That’s one reason why I was so proud to make history as the first Black man to be elected President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors last year. More importantly, that’s why I’ve continued to prioritize policies that restore fundamental equity and equality in San Francisco.

Will you help me keep San Francisco on the front lines of the fight for equity by giving to my campaign today? One of my goals as Supervisor has always been to show Black children that they can be anything they want. That they can serve in any role. When a community works together to uplift one another, that’s when we make progress. Please help me continue this fight by contributing today. » [[link removed]] Gratefully, Shamann
