John,
With the stroke of a pen, President Biden can use his executive authority to cancel student loan debt.
Our federal government has the authority to liberate millions of people from this financial burden and give them the opportunity to start families and participate in our economy through home ownership and launching small businesses.
It is important to acknowledge that student debt cancellation is also a racial justice issue — Black Americans owe nearly twice as much as white Americans.
For many, higher education is a pathway to upward mobility, but it often requires Black families to borrow more money than their white counterparts to pursue their education.
By canceling student debt, we can narrow the racial wealth gap and provide immediate relief to millions of Americans who are struggling with rising inflation, stagnant wages, and increasing education costs.
Everyone deserves to receive a quality education in this country without having tens of thousands of dollars in debt. I will not give up on my efforts to get our President to do the right thing, and I hope you will stand with me in this fight.
Onward,
Mondaire
