Jack,

Our maps, y’all. What the heck. They dropped today. They’re terrible. What is wrong with our legislature?

Can you make a contribution of $25 to our Fair Maps Fund? We have to raise $5,000 by next Tuesday when the maps are finalized. This is an emergency, and we need to be ready to deploy our volunteers and field organizers to districts that could potentially be horribly gerrymandered. Again.

The maps got overruled by our state supreme court two weeks ago because they were beyond unconstitutional, and then the legislature goes back to the drawing board to redo the maps – that is a lot of time, effort, and tax dollars. Here’s what they came up with:

- A&T, an HBCU in Greensboro, is cracked into two districts…again.
- A safe haven for progressive voters, Orange County, has been put into CD-13, a staunchly red congressional district.
- Don’t even get us started about Mecklenburg County.

The electorate is expanding. Black and Brown voters are leading the charge in that expansion, especially in suburban areas in Guilford and Mecklenburg Counties. Extremist Republicans keep trying to gerrymander us out of representation, effectively silencing our voices.

But we’re not going to let that happen. On Tuesday, we’ll find out if these maps stick – and if they do, it’s just another lawsuit waiting to happen. It will mean more taxpayer dollars, more time, effort, and wasted energy. So please make a contribution to our Bad Maps Fund – we need to raise an emergency $5,000, so we can deploy dollars to disenfranchised districts if these maps go through.
