Transformational Justice: February Campaign Meeting

Join the Transformational Justice Steering Team and TJ leaders from across the Gamaliel Network for our next campaign meeting on Friday, February 18, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. CT (3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT). Our focus will be on prosecutors and district attorneys and their outsized impact on mass incarceration, the criminal legal system, and racism. We will also discuss Gamaliel’s plan to collaborate with and support our affiliate in Memphis, MICAH, in their integrated voter engagement effort to address the misconduct of their local district attorney.

You must register in advance for this meeting.

Gamaliel @ 35

In 1986, Gamaliel was founded with the same mission we follow today: to train everyday people to participate in the social, political and environmental decisions that affect their lives.

As we celebrate our 35th anniversary in 2022, we're excited to look back on all the ways we've grown since '86 — and all the ways we plan to keep growing as we move toward our 50th anniversary in 2036.

Join in the celebration by following along at gamaliel.org/gamaliel-at-35 and on our social media accounts. Got a piece of Gamaliel history, like a photo, newsletter, or story? Share them with Gamaliel Nation at [email protected].

What We're Reading

Charged: The New Movement to Transform American Prosecution and End Mass Incarceration

By Emily Bazelon

District Attorneys hold an immense amount of power over the fates of people accused of crimes in the United States. A prosecutor can push for harsher sentences, persuade judges to impose astronomical bails, and set up plea deals designed to produce a guilty verdict without a trial. In Charged, Emily Bazelon dissects this system with stunning clarity by examining two very different DAs: Amy Weirich in Memphis, TN and Eric Gonzalez in Brooklyn, NY.

We encourage our supporters to join us in reading this book as they think about and confront the American criminal justice system. Want to share your thoughts? Email [email protected].
