Constituent Spotlight
Every week in Indiana, several Hoosiers raise their hands and swear an oath to become naturalized U.S. citizens. Legal immigration is fundamental part of what makes America great, and my office can often help individuals stuck in the naturalization process. Earlier this month, Jiaching Qian became one of our newest citizens. My office was able to help Mr. Qian through the process so that he can fulfill his goals and begin his service in the U.S. military.

Far Left’s Medicare-For-All and Public Option Healthcare Proposals
Senator Warren recently released a plan to implement her “Medicare-for-all” proposal. Her plan would cost the federal government $52 trillion and has been called a “fiscal and healthcare fantasy”.
Medicare-for-all would knock 180 million Americans off the private health insurance they receive through work.
Doctors and healthcare providers in Indiana have said they would go out of business if they accepted Medicare rates for all of the patients that they see.
This is not the kind of healthcare reform we need. While the far-left remains committed to raising your taxes and taking away your current healthcare, Republicans are focused on lowering healthcare costs while creating more freedom, choice, flexibility, and competition.

Remembering our Veterans
Last week, I gave a speech on the Senate Floor to honor those who have served our country. I shared the stories of two Hoosier veterans Lance Corporal Alec Terwiske, a Marine killed in Afghanistan, and Robert Egli, a World War II veteran whose family received a Bronze Star on his behalf.
If you are a veteran in need of assistance with a federal agency, I have a team of people dedicated to help. My office offers services to help veterans with VA benefits, locating military records, receiving missing or replacement service medals, and much more. Seeking Applicants for Federal Judicial Appointment
One of my first priorities when I came to the Senate was finding the best legal minds in Indiana to fill federal judicial vacancies in our state. The five outstanding nominees we recommended to President Trump are today serving on the bench, and now we have another opportunity to appoint a faithful Constitutionalist to Indiana’s Northern District Court. I encourage all qualified Hoosiers to apply.

$16 Million for I-65 Mobility and Access Project
Last week, the Indiana Department of Transportation was awarded a $16 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). This funding will be used to modernize transportation infrastructure by constructing or modifying four interchanges along I-65 within Boone County. As a result, these improvements will minimize heavy traffic congestion and support the rapid growth in Whitestown and the surrounding local community.
As the Crossroads of America, it is critical to have a reliable and safe transportation corridor in Indiana for the continuous movement of people and goods. As the primary artery between Indianapolis and Chicago, improvements along I-65 will ensure Boone County remains a regional logistics hub and has the capacity for continued economic growth.
This grant comes after I sent a letter to DOT Secretary Elaine Chao in July urging funding for the project. Read the full letter here.
Congressman Pete Visclosky
Congressman Pete Visclosky announced that this will be his last term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Visclosky has been a tireless advocate for Hoosiers in Northwest Indiana for the last 35 years. His list of accomplishments is long, and his impact will be felt for years to come. I’ve had the privilege to work with Pete to make Indiana Dunes our state’s first National Park, move the West Lake Corridor and South Shore Expansion projects forward, and more. I thank Pete for his service and wish him the best.
Resolution for Looming Pension Crisis Threatening Hoosiers
Last week, I sent a letter to encourage continued efforts to resolve the multiemployer pension crisis in the United States. The largest multiemployer pension fund at risk of insolvency is Central States, which affects over 22,000 Hoosiers. It is imperative that we find a solution and restore financial security to retirees, workers, and their families. If no action is taken in the next five years, these retirees will see benefits cut by 90-95 percent.
My grandfather was a World War II veteran and my family benefited from his UAW pension. Many Hoosiers spend their lives working hard at strenuous and demanding jobs knowing that their retirement years will be financially supported by their pension. I stand ready to help work with all stakeholders on this dire issue to finally and immediately end longstanding uncertainty about the promised retirement benefits of these hardworking Hoosiers and their families.
