Mike Bloomberg: From the Bullpen

John,

A new generation of leaders is stepping up to combat gun violence.

Today, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, announced the addition of 10 new co-chairs -- mayors and former mayors from across the nation -- who will join Mike, the founding chair, as leaders of the nonpartisan coalition.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns was formed in 2006 by Mike, then-New York City Mayor, and Thomas Menino, then-Boston Mayor. The original coalition included 15 mayors, and today has grown to more than 1,000 mayors and former mayors from cities and towns across America.

The 10 incoming co-chairs are stepping up in response to the increase in shootings in American cities. They will join together to strengthen the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition and push for common-sense reforms at local, state, and federal levels.

That includes calling for efforts from the White House. Last week, President Biden traveled to New York City, where he met with incoming co-chair Mayor Eric Adams, and issued new national initiatives to fight gun violence.

Announcing the 10 new co-chairs, Mike said: "The more that mayors work together-- and stand together in state capitols and Congress -- the more able our cities will be to stop crime and save lives.”
