Dear Subscriber,

More than eight million people call New York City home, and more than two million of them speak Spanish at home. Latinos are on pace to become the largest racial group in the city, yet they go out to the polls at lower rates compared to other racial groups.

Latino communities in the US have long been alienated in politics. The media has played a role in this too. Here at City Limits, we are trying to be part of the solution by providing the type of investigative, solutions-oriented, policy-focused reporting we are known for completely in Spanish. Prior to our launch in 2019 of Una Ciudad Sin Limites, our Spanish reporting project, there wasn't another Spanish news outlet exclusively pursuing investigative, accountability and explanatory reporting for the city's Latino population.

City Limits has a deep record of election coverage, but through this project we have been able to provide more Spanish election coverage in the hopes to reach Spanish-speaking New Yorkers with critical information.

Under the guidance of our Spanish editor/reporter, Daniel Parra, we had a team of reporters from the CUNY Newmark Graduate School of Journalism's bilingual program providing dispatches from the polls in Spanish.

We recently partnered with the Media Studies Department at Lehman College and produced "Meet Your New NYC Council: Bronx Students Interview Their Reps", an audio series exploring the upcoming City Council; the students interviewed the Bronx City Council representatives about their legislative priorities and needs of their districts.

Besides election coverage, our Spanish editor/reporter has been steadfastly producing a news-you-can-use series called "Lo que necesita saber sobre" (what you need to know about), as well as bilingual coverage on immigration courts, COVID-19, ICE, politics, among other topics of interest for Spanish-speaking and immigrant communities.

This kind of reporting and approach is needed to help all city residents make informed decisions as residents, consumers and voters.

There is much work to do in order to get more Latinos out at the polls. With your help we can continue and expand this trailblazing work to achieve that.

Will you make a tax-deductible gift in support of Una Ciudad Sin Limites today?
Yes, I'll support your spanish coverage! ([link removed])
