John,

This month is Black History Month, an opportunity to honor the achievements of Black Americans.

Being Black is a core element of my identity. I am a proud graduate of an HBCU. My sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, is a historically Black, service-focused sorority through which I have learned so much and gained so many opportunities to help folks in my community.

As a Black woman running for Congress and a leader in my community, I honor those who have come before me and continue to lift up the next generation of Black leaders.

As we celebrate Black History Month and uplift the Black community, may we all recommit to our fight for justice and equity for all people.

With gratitude,
Alisha
