So I took their message to heart: It wasn't easy, but I became the first in my family to graduate college, embarking on what would become a long career of public service. 

After serving as a social worker, I joined the police department where I served for 27 years and made history when I became Orlando's first Black female Chief of Police in 2007.

Today, I proudly represent Florida's 10th congressional district as only the third Democrat to hold that position. I took an oath to always fight for what is right – and that's exactly what I did when I held Donald Trump accountable for violating his own oath of office.
