Our kids deserve a fair shot! If you have not heard about the battle for the Soul of the Douglas County Colorado school system, you will hear an oversimplification of it here today!
I am writing to ask for your help in supporting our amazing teachers and their noble efforts to ensure our children have a safe and equitable learning environment.

Teachers are payed slave wages in Douglas County Colorado. Colorful Colorado’s teachers are some of the worst paid in the Nation. This is shameful and must change but that is not the subject of this email.
Recently we lost a school board race to a slate of self described conservatives with out of state money.
It was largely due to the hysteria created over mask mandates and our previous boards adherence to sound medical advise coming from our prior health department, Tri County Health.
Unfortunately Douglas County Colorado is a hotbed of conspiracy theorists and entitled rich white radicals.
That is just reality.
We have a mayor that dabbled in OAnon conspiracy theories on the right wing extremist site Parlor. Unfortunately this entitled extremism also took over our school board.
The “Kids First” supposedly “conservative” school board candidates immediately set to work destroying the equity policy that our teachers, parents, and staff largely support. They are not conservative they are Anti LGBTQ rights.
Queer and questioning kids are being faced with a hostile environment coming directly from the Kids First Board members and percolating into every corner of our schools with the repeal of the equity policy.
Our teachers are being forced to shelter our students from the hostile actions of a board acting in a criminal manner.
Principals at every school must enact and adopt the equity policy on their campuses in order to protect the Constitutional civil rights of our students, our children!
In a particularly egregious move after communicating with the other newly elected not so “conservative” members of the board, the leader of the elected bullies, Mike Peterson informed our superintendent Corey Wise that he would be fired if he did not resign.

Teachers in Douglas County are showing these punks who runs our schools… #UnionStrong
In a statement to 9NEWS Tuesday, Peterson said "there has been no action taken" on Wise's contract or employment status.
“Douglas County Schools are cancelling classes for Thursday. Nearly 1,000 teachers called out sick in protest after the newly-elected conservative school board majority was accused of secretly meeting to force out the superintendent.”
This statement was only made because he was caught attempting to bully and pressure our superintendent into resigning, violating Colorado Sunshine laws and established board and district policy. Mike Peterson criminal conduct was exposed and teachers are taking action!
He got caught. Teachers are engaged in collective efforts today! We must support their efforts from every corner!!!
Each of our 64,000 students deserve our support and that is exactly what our teachers are gathering today to orchestrate.
Unfortunately, the behavior of the board members and their supporters does not seem to differ greatly.
Their conduct was on full display for the Nation and now they are trying to bully teachers, staff, and students with their discriminatory policy push.
