Hi, it's Tim Kaine.

Did you see the message I sent yesterday about keeping and growing our majority in the U.S. Senate this November?

I’m a firm believer in the institution of the Senate, but I’m also clear-eyed about the challenges we face from the other side -- and our narrow majority simply isn’t big enough to pass critical bills needed to protect our democracy from right-wing, anti-democratic attacks in state legislatures across the country.

We have no choice but to fight to expand our Democratic majority in the Senate this November, so I’m asking: Can you donate $20 or more to my campaign to help us keep up the fight against voter suppression?

Thanks for your support,

Subject: The fight continues

Friends:

The last month has been a frustrating one in the U.S. Senate. Thanks to unanimous GOP opposition, we have been unable to pass voting rights -- despite overwhelming support from the American people.

We also marked the one-year anniversary of the violent January 6th effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election -- and we have continued to watch in horror as bills in state legislatures across the U.S. strip voting rights away from Americans, deepen the partisan divide, and make our country less democratic.

I refuse to back down from this fight. And I’m encouraged by history that shows that efforts to expand voting rights are good for democracy, even if they take time to pass.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 passed after years of previous failures. It took a galvanizing act of violence, the vicious beating of John Lewis, then a young activist, on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Alabama, to spur the final push to victory.

But here’s the bottom line: Without securing a wider Democratic majority in the Senate in the upcoming midterms, passing federal legislation aimed at protecting the right to vote for all American citizens will continue to be difficult.

So I need to ask: Will you make a contribution of any amount today as we work to hold and expand our Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

The right to vote is foundational for all other rights. It’s about the equality of each person. But it’s also the self-correcting mechanism for democracy itself.

If voters don’t like the job a candidate or political party is doing, they can vote for another in the next election. That self-correcting mechanism only works if all people can participate, so excluding people from the franchise makes it harder for our democracy to function.

I’m not ready to give up on the project of expanding our democracy to all who wish to participate.

Thanks for joining me,

Tim Kaine
