Last year, Mondaire became the first member of Congress to say that Justice Stephen Breyer should allow President Biden to nominate his successor, and just this week, he announced his retirement, allowing President Biden to avoid a 7-2 conservative majority on the Court.

Mondaire is grateful for Justice Breyer’s nearly three decades of brilliant, distinguished service protecting our democracy and fundamental rights, and he looks forward to President Biden nominating someone equally dedicated to those tasks.

As a leader in the fight to restore balance to our nation’s highest court, Mondaire will continue leading the charge to expand the Supreme Court and build a judiciary that respects precedents like Roe v. Wade, believes in the science of vaccines, and reflects the diversity of our country.
