Friend, while much of the political news right now is focused on the impeachment inquiry and Donald Trump's abuses of power, we can't lose sight of the other issues that are directly impacting Americans' livelihoods.
I want to call your attention to a new study by the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families: Since 2016, the number of uninsured children has risen by 400,000 -- and Texas has the highest rate of uninsured children.
This is a tragic result of the efforts by politicians like Roger Williams to repeal the Affordable Care Act and cut Medicaid. It's a result of CHIP funding delays -- which happened because of dangerous brinkmanship by right-wing extremists in Congress. It's a result of Latino families, in fear after our cruel treatment of immigrants, being less likely to enroll their children in public programs.
The fight to ensure that our children have healthcare is personal to me. My son was born with a pre-existing heart condition, and for years we feared that insurance companies would discriminate against covering him.
When Roger Williams and his friends in Congress voted to put people like my son at risk, I had to act. I knew that Texas' 25th District deserved so much better.
I'm running to fight for universal healthcare. No parent should ever have to fear that their child won't receive care. We need to fundamentally alter the status quo that allows insurance and pharmaceutical companies to put a price on our lives, and implement Medicare for All.
You can always count on me to fight for this. I'm not afraid of the special interests that will resist change. Together, we will take them on and win.
So please stand with me and donate so we can defeat Roger Williams and give the people of TX-25 a real champion for healthcare.
