Florida Republican Matt Gaetz is clearly freaking out about the investigations into his alleged pedophilic sex trafficking. 

He took to Steve Bannon’s “War Room” show last night to spin an unbelievable tale of espionage and intrigue (with himself as both star and victim, naturally) in which he accused “shadowy, gray-area national security types” – maybe from the CIA, maybe “CIA-adjacent,” he isn’t quite sure – of trying to “destroy” him.

Why would the CIA (or “CIA-adjacent” entities) target a third-term congressman from Florida whose main claim to fame is being a plague-spreading, anti-mask manbaby whose Congressional colleagues are tired of him showing them nude pics and videos of his latest sexual conquests on the House floor?

Gaetz has an answer for that: “We are going to take power, and when we do, it's not going to be the days of Paul Ryan and Trey Gowdy, where the Republicans go limp-wristed, where they lose their backbone and fail to send a single subpoena. No, it's going to be the days of Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

Gaetz didn’t explain why “national security types” would want to stop him or his allies from taking power, although it kind of begs the question.

We can think of a few reasons:

• Their involvement in the bloody attempted coup last January 6
• The weirdness surrounding Gaetz’s buddy Madison Cawthorn and his soon-to-be-ex-wife (to whom he was introduced by a man he met in an illegal casino in Russia 🤔)
• The fact that the entire “sedition caucus” is shady as hell, not very smart, and extremely vulnerable to manipulation by bad actors both foreign and domestic
• Worth mentioning again, their involvement in the bloody attempted coup last January 6.

But putting all of that aside for a minute … read it again: “We are going to take power, and when we do … it's going to be the days of Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

Jim “The Enabler” Jordan, who looks the other way whenever he sees his allies breaking the law. Matt “The Pedophile” Gaetz, who is credibly accused of trafficking a 17-year-old girl across state lines for paid sex. Marjorie “Traitor” Greene, the “Q-Anon Congresswoman” whose growing list of misdeeds could probably fill a 50,000 word email, but suffice it to say that she’s the worst.

Can you think of anything more terrifying than a U.S. Congress with these people in charge? 

We can’t.  That’s why we started the “Stop the Sedition Caucus” fund in the first place, to remove them from office before they get a chance to end American democracy as we know it.

Look, we know times are tough right now, but if these folks take power in November, everything is going to get so much worse.

Just look at what happened in Virginia, where enough Democrats sat out the 2021 election to let the Republicans eke out a 2-point victory. 

Glenn Youngkin touted himself as a moderate, but within the first week of taking office, he outlawed school mask mandates, banned diversity/equity/inclusion education, and set up a tattle-tale hotline for students and parents to rat out teachers who dare to tell kids the truth about systemic racism or tell them it’s okay to be LGBTQ+ and/or non-binary.

Gaetz, Jordan, Greene and their ilk aren’t even pretending to be moderate. They’ve been very clear on what kind of leaders they’ll be should their party retake power – fascistic, white-supremacist Christian Nationalists who will make life hell for refugees, immigrants, people of color, religious minorities, women, LGBTQ+ folks, the disabled, and the poor.

It’s up to us to make sure that doesn’t happen.
