Dear Union Brothers and Sisters:
This is a friendly reminder that the postmark deadline for high school seniors to apply for this year’s edition of the Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Program is Monday, Jan. 31, 2022.
If you know of an eligible high school senior who could benefit from a one-time grant of $1,500, please urge him or her to fill out an application. The application and detailed instructions may be found at www.texasaflcio.org/scholarship.
To be eligible, a high school senior must have a parent or legal guardian who is a member of a union that is affiliated both with the Texas AFL-CIO and with the applicable Central Labor Council (or Area Labor Federation), if any. Of course, if the student is a union member, that counts, too.
We try to make the application process educational. Local scholarship committees will interview applicants and administer a short test on the basics of the union movement, for which we provide study materials. The high quality of applicants has been consistent over many years.
We are proud of our scholarship program and ask you to help steer students to the website to give them a chance at help for their college expenses. Again, the link is www.texasaflcio.org/scholarship.
Thank you.
In solidarity,
Rick Levy, President Leonard Aguilar, Secretary-Treasurer
