Dear allies,
The cases of COVID-19 and its variants, especially Omicron, have been dramatically increasing since the beginning of 2022. On January 15, a requirement for individuals to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 ([link removed]) was put in order to enter certain indoor spaces in Boston. We, as a community, need to continue taking the necessary precautions to keep ourselves and our families safe. Order your free at-home COVID test ([link removed]) today!
While the City of Boston has made strides to align with the state's reopening plan ([link removed]) , we must also align with a plan to keep supporting the future our communities deserve. This includes plans of action to combat rent control, child care needs, public transit access and affordability, economic equality, and a fight for racial justice. The issues are endless, but our fight for justice remains intact.

Yaira joins Community Labor United as the Care That Works Pilot Coordinator, and is a long-time activist with a fierce dedication to a number of causes spanning reproductive justice to environmental justice to economic justice. She joins the Care That Works coalition ([link removed]) with a deep desire to contribute to the creation of a solution-based model for affordable and accessible child care, an issue she believes deserves urgent attention. We’re excited to have her with us!
Save the Date: Mass Renews Alliance Legislative Action
Join Mass Renews Alliance and allies in the fight for affordable and healthy housing for low-income and Black and brown communities. We need legislation, like the Building Justice with Jobs Act, to build on energy efficiency programs to provide safer and healthier homes. In addition, the Food Justice bill will also bring more fresh local food to families in need, ultimately creating food-security jobs for Massachusetts residents. Together, our policies will set us on the path to a future with housing stability and cleaner air and water.

Labor coalition asks Mass. high court to block gig worker ballot questions
“The opponents of two petitions that could reshape how gig economy workers are classified in Massachusetts are asking the state’s highest court to block them from reaching the November ballot, arguing that they are unconstitutional… The tech industry-backed ballot initiatives would allow Uber, Lyft, Instacart, and DoorDash to continue classifying their drivers and deliverers as independent contractors rather than employees, while also granting the workers some new benefits.”

Poll: Large majority back discounts for low-income T riders, fair share amendment
“A NEW STATEWIDE poll indicates overwhelming support for offering discounts to low-income riders on public transportation and strong but less support for eliminating fares altogether.
The poll of 1,026 registered voters indicated 79 percent strongly support or somewhat support offering discounted fares to low-income riders. The margin of support fell to 71 percent for eliminating fares on bus routes serving low-income riders, 61 percent on all buses, 58 percent on subways and trolleys, and 54 percent on commuter rail and ferries...
The poll [also found] 69 percent of those surveyed strongly support or somewhat support passage this November of a constitutional amendment creating a millionaire tax, which would assess a 4 percent income tax surcharge on incomes over $1 million with the revenue set aside for transportation and education spending.”
