52%. Last time you filled out a survey, 52% of responses asked the question – “what am I supposed to do besides make a contribution?”

When you put all three of those numbers together, two things are clear:

1. The Lincoln Project is ready to make a huge impact in 2022 powered by you, the people reading this email.
2. You know that our democracy is facing an existential threat, and you’re ready to act.

You’ve heard us talk about the pro-democracy coalition. Building a movement of people who are willing to take concrete actions to protect our democracy. Because we can’t wait for anyone else to do it.

That’s why today, we’re excited to launch this coalition. We’re calling it The Union. 

Here’s how it’s going to work:

1. Sign up and let us know you’re ready to get to work. You’ll be able to tell us just how you’re able to get involved and what skills you bring to the fight for democracy.
   
   
2. Throughout the year, we’ll connect you to the organizations and causes that are doing the work you indicated you’d be interested in. Sometimes that’ll be with The Lincoln Project. Other times it’ll be with local or national organizations working right now to protect our democracy.
   

Why us? And why now?

You know the biggest threat to our democracy isn’t Donald Trump. It’s not the baseless claims of rigged elections. It’s not elected officials who are so deep into the Big Lie that they’ll justify striking down voting rights and civil rights rather than admit Trump lost. It’s not radical Republicans changing the rules of elections to decide who wins and who loses every time. It’s not even the violent attack on our Capitol.

No, the biggest threat to our democracy and the American republic is that too many people are giving up. Checking out. Letting Trump and the Republicans get away with their conspiracy to end democracy.

We know you’re tired. We know the news is sometimes hard to take.

But there’s only one solution: you.

We can’t save this country by waiting on miracles. Hope is not a strategy. That’s why we can’t wait for the Washington D.C. political committees to act. They don’t see the danger or know how to fight it. Americans have to band together and do the work ourselves.

We are building the strongest political coalition of people and organizations in American history because the task before us demands it.
