Dear
John,
In case there was any doubt before, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib showed the world this week that they are leaders who are unwavering in their purpose and responsibility to advance rights for us all.
Their response in the face of shameful racist attacks by President Trump and his allies deserves our full attention and deepest commitment.
These brave elected officials — a.k.a. “the squad” — are asking all of us to re-focus our energy and outrage toward helping the people at the center of Trump’s racist, destructive, dehumanizing policies: young children being detained in cages, parents being separated from their babies, people dying at the border, individuals and families seeking asylum from wretched, dangerous and often life-threatening conditions.
As Rep. Ayanna Pressley said in a group interview for CBS News on Wednesday, "We do not have the luxury of dedicating sweat equity and any more mental space to the [White House] occupant and these tweets. We have to do the work on the issues of consequence to the American people ... anyone committed to doing the work of a more equitable and just world is a part of the squad."
As a community that believes in liberty, equality and justice, I’m asking every National Partnership supporter to answer the call to turn outrage into action. Here are a few actions you can take right now:
- Sign the National Partnership’s open letter to support “the squad” and condemn President Trump's racist attacks, then share the letter with your own networks
- Make a donation to an organization like RAICES that's helping migrant children and separated families
- Join the ACLU’s petition calling on Congress to hold Customs and Border Patrol accountable for inhumane child detention
You can add to this list by replying to this email with your thoughts and suggestions. I’ll reach back out on Monday to share an updated list with as many of your recommendations as possible.
Thanks for all that you do!
Sincerely,

Debra Ness
President
