John,
The filibuster is a relic of Jim Crow — and it’s time to abolish it.
Last week, the House passed the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act — a historic bill including provisions authored by Mondaire to prevent states from passing restrictive voting laws and protect the constitutional right to vote.
Today, the Senate will vote on this democracy-saving legislation, but with our narrow majority in Congress and Republicans unanimously opposed to protecting voting rights, we have no choice but to — at a minimum — reform the filibuster to pass this landmark legislation.
This is our last chance to protect voting rights before the midterm elections in November, so we must do everything we can to stop Republican attacks immediately.
From prohibiting supplying water to voters in line in Georgia to establishing a modern-day poll tax to formerly incarcerated voters in Florida, our current voting laws are setting us back decades. By reforming the filibuster and passing the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, the Senate has a chance to move our country — and our ailing democracy — forward.
Thank you for standing with us during this incredibly important moment.
