Good morning!

My name is Carlene Reid. I’m a Ward 8 resident, a State Board of Education representative, and a proud special educator. I also have the honor of being the new Chairperson for Robert White’s campaign to become the next Mayor of the District of Columbia. I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about why I’m supporting Robert.

I first met Robert when I had just moved to Ward 8 and he was running for the DC Council for the first time. From the first day I met him, I was impressed by his message and his commitment to our community. But what really impressed me came in the years to come - when he delivered on his message and continued to show up in communities throughout the city, even when there was no election to win and no cameras pointed on him. I’ve witnessed this first hand as I have visited schools with Robert foregoing the photo opportunity and focusing on the task at hand of ensuring our students have quality and safe learning environments.

We need a mayor who is deeply committed to our communities. That is who Robert is: he’ll always take the time to listen and make decisions that are rooted in the best interests of residents. As a member of the State Board of Education, I have seen firsthand how challenging navigating our school system can be. That’s why I’m so glad I’ve been able to rely on Robert and his office to consistently be responsive to educators and families.

I know we can win this race, that’s why I’m all in. I have big shoes to fill and I want to thank Matthew Frumin for serving so masterfully as the interim Chairperson. Matthew and I share Robert’s passion for making our schools work for all our students and I am grateful he is part of our movement.
