Today we honor the life and legacy of an American hero — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Honoring Dr. King is about more than just celebrating his words or actions. We have to continue the work to realize his dream.

That includes rising up to defend our voting rights and protect the future of our democracy. I'm fighting to ensure that EVERY American – no matter their zip code – can make their voice heard and vote count.

But it’s going to take all of us, together, to fend off those who are working to deprive our communities of the right to vote in Louisiana and across the nation. This moment is too critical to sit back on the sidelines.

The fight for racial equality and justice is a long one. But it’s a fight worth having because it’s the right thing to do — and as Dr. King said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” Together, we can bring about real change. Let’s get to work.
