John
Friends can be honest with one another. If you are reading this, I really do hope you consider me a friend.
As friends, we need to have a conversation right now, and when I say conversation, I do mean two ways. I hope that you will reply to what I have to say.
The situation in Washington is about as bad as one could have imagined. Actually, I take that back – I really did not imagine in my wildest dreams things would be this bad.
Let's recap where things stand: We don't have an infrastructure bill agreement, and there’s no hope for one on the horizon.
All signs indicate that John Lewis Voting Rights Enhancement Act is dead in the water as well. Not only are we not passing a national voting rights bill, but in Texas, Oklahoma and other GOP-controlled states, Jim Crow-style voter restriction laws have been passed, making it harder for people of color to vote.
Gun safety regulations aren’t even being discussed.
As far as the student debt crisis is concerned, the payments keep getting deferred; but when it comes to finding a more permanent solution to help the young people who owe trillions of dollars they can’t pay back, well, no one is even having a conversation about that.
But wait, there’s more – and this one really stings – at a time when Democrats control Congress, the Senate and the White House, Roe v. Wade, the precedent we thought was untouchable? Well, not so much. The conservative-majority SCOTUS says they are now reviewing the case.
Who is feeling the brunt of all of this? Not the ones that have abandoned the party, not Senator Manchin or Senator Sinema. Those two have surrounded themselves with wealthy patrons and made themselves untouchable to the GOP. (And honestly, why would the GOP even go after them when they’re doing the Republicans’ bidding?)
The rest of us, on the other hand, especially those that work in grassroots organizing, are getting pummeled to the ground. Staffers from all organizations are leaving in droves because they are being berated, scolded, and mistreated by our own base.
I am here to tell you to knock it off.
This is obviously not aimed at everyone, and I do apologize if you are not one of those people that has engaged in this type of conduct. But I have to send this message, because too many people are acting this way, and I am a no-nonsense type of guy.
Look, a 25-year-old staffer working for an organization dedicated to registering voters in disenfranchised areas does not deserve to be yelled at because of the actions of two United States Senators. Neither do the staffers who work for Joe Manchin, by the way. I know many of them; please stop calling and telling them to quit their jobs in protest! You think it's easy to find another government job as a Democrat in West Virginia?
I am mad, too, I am more than angry, but I don't quit, I don't give up. That is not the way I was brought up.
Passing groundbreaking legislation that will change the trajectory of our country and redistribute the wealth? That is hard gut-wrenching work. It was never going to be easy.
(If you want me to blame the President and the Democratic leadership on one thing, I will say they took their victory lap on Build Back Better way too early, giving everyone a false sense of hope. That was a mistake, one that I hope they will learn from.)
So, what now? Two options: Pack up and move to Canada, or fight!
One way we can get out of this mess is to give President Biden a larger majority in the House and Senate. For that to happen, we Democrats have stop ignoring rural America. We need to talk to them, hear them out, and share with them our vision for this country. That is the basis on which No Dem Left Behind was founded and that is what we are fighting for today.
But for the sake of full transparency, I have to tell you that donations are down about 60% across the board – not just for us, but for other Democratic organizations and grassroots candidates. At a time when we are supposed to be ramping up and staffing up for the midterms, we are instead being forced to make some very difficult decisions.
Meanwhile, on the Republican side, they are already planning for impeachment hearings and assigning committees to Marjorie Trainwreck Greene and Lauren Breitbart Boebert just to spite us.
How do you feel about that, where do you stand?

Friend, I’ m not just asking for you to donate to No Dem Left Behind, I am asking you to re-engage with us. Let's fight side-by-side together like we did in 2020, because our country is worth it and our children deserve it.
Sappers Clear The Way, Airborne All the Way!
