Yesterday, I worked with my House Democratic colleagues to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act — legislation to protect our constitutional right to vote and save our democracy.

I’m proud to have authored key provisions of this legislation, including my bill, the Right to Vote Act, which will codify the right to vote in this country and prevent states from enacting voting restrictions without evidence. The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act also includes critical text from another bill I introduced, the Inclusive Elections Act, which will restore Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and allow Black and brown citizens to fully participate in the electoral process.

Now that we in the House have done our job, I’m calling on my Senate colleagues to act urgently to reform the filibuster and get this bill passed. The right to vote and fairly participate in the electoral process is fundamental to our democracy, and if we don’t do everything we can to meet this moment, then we’ve failed.
