We’re not even halfway through January. Put that pipe in your pipe and smoke it. This has been a helluva month for most Americans, every day a dragging pile of anxieties, surprises, and difficulties. So, congrats on making it to the end of another week. These little victories are important. Kick back with a movie. Have a special family meal. Pour yourself a drink (if you’re dabbling in Dry January, make one with a non-alcoholic spirit that are surprisingly pretty tasty). And be sure to extend yourself, your partner, your kids, and your larger circle some grace. Express appreciation. Communicate. Listen. Chances are, someone is experiencing burnout or stress and could use a bit of support.

The key is to be specific in your appreciation, to say to them “I see all that you do, and I don’t take you for granted.”

Here are a few more texts to send when your husband or wife is stressed out.

It all felt quite pointless. I would be working to give [my family] a better life, but I wouldn’t be around to see it or live it. So, I gave up a good salary and a great career path to start my own business.
